In 1962 when J.C.R. Licklider of MIT first discovered his “Galactic Network,” which was later dubbed the Internet, it was hard to fathom what this new invention would bring. No one could have imagined that in “the future,” Web applications would enrich our lives, careers and even our relationships in the numerous ways they have.
Now, in 2008, we are a culture that lives in real time. We have up-to-the-minute information on news, videos and pictures when events happen all over the world. Likewise, Real Estate Portfolio has joined the real-time reporting era. On May 30, RealEstatePortfolio.com was relaunched, complete with current headlines and real-time news feed for the real estate investment industry, Web exclusive features and an expanding library of audio and video podcasts that provide analysis of this dynamic industry.
Taking that one step further, Portfolio will run longer versions of our print articles online, where you will find additional photos, quotes, data and more. I encourage you to check out the new Web site, and to contact us with any comments or suggestions you may have. I have a feeling that, just like Licklider’s invention, this will be the start of an enriching REIT experience.

Even though sovereign wealth funds have been in the investing community for some time, the industry first took note of them last year. In fact, they announced their presence as a global financial power in late 2007 when Abu Dhabi Investment Authority provided $7.5 billion infusion of capital to keep Citi afloat.
